IAW South Africa 2010

IAW South Africa: 50 Years Since Sharpeville, 1 Year Since Gaza As South Africans who took strength from the international campaign against Apartheid we persist in condemning Israel's actions by declaring "Apartheid for one is apartheid for all!". As students of post-Apartheid South Africa, and as beneficiaries of a liberation struggle against racism, sexism and exploitation, we stand with all those still engaged in struggle to liberate themselves from racism, apartheid and injustice. For these reasons, South African organisations form part of the international campaign to pressurise the state of Israel with boycotts, divestment and sanctions. Thursday, 4 March Jewish Opposition to Zionism A discussion with Professor Yakov Rabkin hosted by The Palestine Solidarity Group (PSG) University of Cape Town Upper Campus, Centre for African Studies 6:30 pm Professor Rabkin has taught contemporary Jewish history, Soviet history and the history of science at the University of Montreal since 1973 and has also served as a Visiting Scholar at several universities, including Yale, Johns Hopkins, Tokyo, Hebrew and Tel Aviv universities, Université Louis-Pasteur and the Smithsonian Institution. He has worked with major international organizations as well as Canadian and Quebec government agencies and is often solicited by printed and electronic media for comment and insight. His most recent book is 'A Threat From Within: A Century of Jewish Opposition to Zionism' (2006) See last year's Cape Town schedule.

COORDINATED BY THE COALITION FOR A FREE PALESTINE Some of the South African IAW events, including the protest march at the Israeli Embassy, have been convened by a number of local organisations ranging from Palestinian solidarity, trade union and political groups to human rights and student organisations which have come together to form a united solidarity front in South Africa, the Coalition for a Free Palestine. See the press release for The Coalition for a Free Palestine here The public can also join in solidarity by wearing a black ribbon throughout the week See last year's Johannesburg schedule.
