BAY AREA LAUNCHES CAMPAIGN TO BOYCOTT ISRAELI PRODUCTS! 2009

Break the Siege started during the 2006 siege of Gaza and Lebanon and since then has been developing a long term structure and plan for its solidarity work. Through 2008 Break the Siege has been planning a broad based consumer boycott campaign of Israeli goods as part of the global Boycott,Divestment and Sanctions movement (BDS).

We participate in the global BDS movement because:

1. The system of Israeli Apartheid established in 1948 is the root of the conflict.

2. Over 170 Palestinian civil society organizations have called for the international
BDS movement.
3. In the tradition of victory over apartheid in South Africa, Boycotts, Divestment and
Sanctions are effective, nonviolent strategies to end state sponsored racism and injustice

We will launch our local campaign during Israeli Apartheid Week March 1-8.

We are asking all individuals to pledge to:


1. Not buy Israeli products
2. Support the Palestinian fair trade economy and other fair trade movements
3. Work with and support Break the Siege as part of the global BDS movement for justice in Palestine.

ACTIVITIES

TABLING MARCH 1-8

Break the Siege and ally organizations will be tabling outside select grocery stores in San Francisco and the East Bay to raise awareness about Israeli products being sold in our communities. We will be educating shoppers about the Israeli Apartheid system, the Palestinian call for Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions, the parallels to Apartheid South Africa, and how, by boycotting Israeli goods, consumers can help tip the scales towards ending Israeli Apartheid.

Can you?
• Pull together a team of 3-4 people who would like to help
• Table for 2-3 hours anytime the week of March 1 through March 8
• Take part as an individual by joining one of the BTS tabling teams!

We'll help you do this by:
• Providing the literature and other materials for tabling,
• Hosting a training for you and your team on the issues and outreach strategy
• Helping you locate Israeli products and the stores near you that carry them!
