As Israel faces increasing international condemnation of its 22-day massacre in Gaza and its illegal activities in the occupied Palestinian West Bank and East Jerusalem, an open discourse on Israel’s apartheid policies and practices could not be more timely. Melbourne has joined a massive worldwide movement to expose Israel’s criminal activities and to challenge them through boycotts, divestments and sanctions (BDS).

Australians for Palestine and Women for Palestine have organised an Israeli Apartheid Forum with a panel of distinguished academics and a Palestinian human rights advocate at the University of Melbourne who will present their perspectives on Israeli Apartheid - the history, policies and practices, Israel's violations of international law and its efforts at normalisation with the international community through the media and public relations. The moderator will be the internationally-acclaimed thinker and hugely popular Professor Ghassan Hage, Future Generation Professor of Anthropology and Social Theory, University of Melbourne and author of "Against Paranoid Nationalism" (2003, 2006).

The panellists are:

Professor John Docker:
Honorary professor at the University of Sydney, Jewish public intellectual, literary and cultural critic, and author of "1492: The Poetics of Diaspora"

Professor Jake Lynch
Associate professor and Director of the Centre for Peace and Conflict Studies at the University of Sydney, author of "Debates in Peace Journalism", former BBC journalist

Samah Sabawi
Palestinian from Gaza, human rights advocate, poet, playwright, former Executive Director and media spokesperson for the National Council on Arab-Canada Relations

Professor Jeremy Salt
Professor of Middle East History and Politics, Bilkent University, Ankara, Turkey, author of "The Unmaking of the Middle East", former journalist with Melbourne's Age newspaper
